So, this post is for those of you who, like me, used to love playing the Sims. If you are not sure what I am talking about, this post might not be for you! I remember loving creating new people and watching them grow and evolve. I also distinctly remember those little meters above their heads that you had to ensure were filled up so that they were happy and functioning. Some of those meters were: Hunger, Social, Fun, Comfort, Hygiene, and Energy. We, like Sims, have needs and wants to be able to feel fulfilled, healthy, motivated, and to be able to perform basic functions.
Now, I want you to reflect on what your meters would look like? What do you need every week to ensure that your taking care of your mental health. How much sleep do you need to feel energized and motivated? What happens if you binge too much Netflix and forget to socialize for a while? What happens if you don’t go outside in the sunshine?
Nobodies meter will be the same. However, they might have some similarities such as socialization, food, water, sunshine. Therapy can also help to reduce mental health symptoms, increase accountability and process life stressors.
I have created a checklist for you to fill out and list a few of your weekly needs to feel more motivated and less stressed. Print it or pin it and work towards keeping yourself accountable this week. At the end of the week, see if your needs were met and if it impacted your mood and energy.
